dental assistant does things with the teeth, like cleanings, fillings, etc.. ortho assistant works with braces, retainers etc. some places don’t require you to have any training, just a diploma. many people will train you without a degree or schooling.

A dental assistant assists a general dentist. They assist with things such as extractions, fillings and scale and clean procedures.
An orthodontic assistant assists an orthodontist. They assist the orthodontist with putting on appliances.
Both are required to scrub and steralise tools, assist with xrays, ensure the patients comfort and ensure that the surgery is kept well stocked.
They both go through the same training and both have the title of ‘Dental Assistant’

Adental asst is trained to work on all phases of dentistry from fillings to root canals to surgical extractions and to some degree orthodontics. But an orthodontic assst only works all day long assisting the DR. and handing him the correct tools used in that area of speciality. It can be wuite boring for some but not to others.. I prefer to be a dentall asst that works on all fields of dentistry.
